Leytonstone Ballroom is to open in the London Borough of Culture 2019, showing that the newly created London Borough of Culture is already gaining success, before it’s even started. Leytonstone Ballroom is opening to mark Waltham Forest being named the first ever London Borough of Culture for 2019.
The historic East London music and arts venue, recently restored, will help develop and build the legacy of the Borough of Culture and cement Waltham Forest as a thriving cultural hub. The pub below, The Red Lion in Leytonstone has a rich cultural heritage. The pub dates back to the 17th Century, and has stood in its current guise since 1891. Historically The Ballroom became one of East London’s premier live music venues in the 1970s, hosting one of Led Zeppelin’s first London gigs, as well as the likes of The Who, Yes, Genesis, and Roxy Music.
Working with the local community this historic magnificently restored Ballroom is now relaunching, marking the significance of the first ever Borough of Culture award in Waltham Forest. Bringing in a specialist arts programming team and developing collaborations with the area’s top content creators and rising talent, Leytonstone Ballroom will feature an ambitious programme of events that will be anything but ordinary. The venue will develop and cement Waltham Forest as a thriving cultural hub and destination for arts and music. Leytonstone Ballroom will introduce a programme of unparalleled variety and cutting edge events, operating throughout the week.
